Question

This is a very interesting article. I am kind of conflicted on the lifting portion though. I agree that the best way to add mass (from a training standpoint) is by doing the big, compound exercises. BUT, it brings up a conflict that I see a lot in theories of training. I generally do slow, controlled reps for these big lifts. I often sacrifice weight so that I can go really slow and steady, and to me the workout is even more intense...Like taking 4 seconds to go up on a squat, and 4 more to go down...and maybe even through in some static holds halfway in-between. I'm in the gym to grow, not to impress people with big weight. There is no way I could do 150% my bodyweight squatting for 20 reps (about 300lbs)...let alone doing it in a slow controlled motion. Has anyone else encountered this 'butting of heads' in philosophies? Thoughts? Thanks for the article Dr X!

I once did 315 for 3 sets of 20. I actually blew a blood vessel in my head on the third set at #16. I did complete the reps but was then out for 2 weeks. Should of worked my way up but it was a bet. Anyway I find both working together works real well.

Sounds intense! Did you notice any changes the next time you lifted? Could you handle more weight? Did you gain more weight? Anyone else have thougts?

I never lift with "good" form.. I always "cheat" when lifting. If Im not throwing around heavy weight, it just doesnt do it for me.

Thumbs up

Alright, so...I'm giving this routine/diet a try...It's something TOTALLY different from what I'm used to, and I often find that these totally new ideas (new to me, that is) from members of boards like this usually have a lot of merit. So I'm doing it. Besides, it's getting cold here in the Northeast and I want to put on some mass. If anyone wants ill keep you updated with my results as the weeks go by, just let me know. Thanks again Dr. X.
