Although late...but so much appreciated. My family all chipped in to surprise me. My kids doing most the work.
About early May my oldest son asked if he could take m y 65 Mustang up to his friends house to do some tweaking on the new carb I installed and to have his friend check out the transmission. I was all for this as I wanted to get my project completed.
A little background. I purchased this 65 Mustang Fastback about 10 yrs ago. It was a stock 6 cyl with a 3 speed standard on the floor. MIssing the front passenger seat. Upholstery was shot but showed some nice stitching (Like when a open wound is stitched together)! It's been an on going project.
Anyway...since then I've replaced the 6 with a 302 that has a little beef to it. Replaced the transmission with a C5...well...it was sold to me as a C4 but cross referencing helped show what it was. Replaced the 6 cyl rear end with a 8 cyl and replaced all the brake lines and fuel lines as well as the fuel tank.
Did the 77 Granada front disc brake conversion which also meant going through the whole steering and suspension setup.
And redone all the interior as well as replacing the front windshield due to the nice crack it had in it. All in all...it's pretty much a new car.
What was left was some minor things along with body and paint work. It has sat on the back burner as wife and I have been saving our money for our adoption.
Well..one thing lead to another this year and haven't seen my car for some months now. That is until this past Sunday evening. I got a phone call from my sons who asked that I come and tow them home as their car...a new Tiburon that has a lot of mods on it...was acting up and the oldest..owner of it..didn't want to drive it. I didn't think anything of it as I have towed him home a few times. I didn't really pay attention to my wife and future daughter in law packing up the granddaughter claiming that they were going to Dairy Queen and asked if I wanted a blizzard...of course...Reeses is my favorite and hard to resist!
We left at the same time and I noticed they were going to the same place I was...I figured that the wife and future daughter in law were going there to ask if my sons wanted any food so no biggie. Nothing out of the ordinary. So..I turn in looking for my son's Tiburon...but noticed a group of people gathered around this really nice looking Mustang. I was thinking..dang...look how nice that car looks and all the people gathered around it. Must be a car show I missed or something. Then it hit me...it was my family! It was my car! I can't begin to tell you how it hit me. My wife had bets I'd cry with emotion and happiness. She lost that bet but I was speechless...all I could say was WOW...over and over again! It was exactly the color I'd been wanting...the wheels and tires as well. My sons did most the work. My daughters helped clean it up. Now...you need to know that my oldest son is a perfectionist and went way above and beyond what I would of done. Purchasing new parts and all.
My kids told me that they wanted to show how much they appreciated me raising them all the years by myself. That they do not know where they'd of been if their real mother had custody of them...and that they wanted to show how much they loved and appreciated all I've meant to them. (Actually...I am the one who has been truly blessed as not every father has had the opportunity that I have had...I wouldn't change a thing.) I have to give my wife a lot of credit as well. Not just anyone can jump into an instant family as she has done. We've all leawrned a lot from her.
Anyway..sorry for the long intro...here is a pict of it! Oh..and I'm not in this pict but some of my family and friends are. I am truly blessed and will be placing it in the cruise that takes place next week...the one my family and I put on each year for the local DARE program.
damn thats a sweet ass 50th brudda!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SOOO happy for you and cant wait to see more pics, crucial suprise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
